He was seen batting and bowling at an exhibition match held at the ICC grounds of the Nayakakanda Church. Even the mud and slipperiness of the ground due to rains ahead of the match, did not deter his enthusiasm, reports say.

The ground is said to be where Vass learnt his basics in cricket, when he was a boy.

Vaas attended the event as chief guest but joined the play to bat and ball for an over. He also met several of his childhood friends at the event.
