Ronaldo breaks Real Madrid scoring record

Cristiano Ronaldo scored five goals for Real Madrid as they smashed Espanyol 6-0, while Barcelona won 2-1 at Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Saturday.

Ronaldo's quintuple catapulted him to become Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer in La Liga with 230 goals, surpassing the previous record of 228 that was held by club legend Raul Gonzalez.

Raul scored 228 in 550 games while 30-year-old Ronaldo, incredibly, already has 230 League goals in just 204 games.

Karim Benzema got the other goal, and it was set up by Ronaldo, who already had a hat-trick after 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, Neymar and Lionel Messi got the goals as Barcelona won 2-1 at Espanyol.

Fernando Torres opened the scoring for the home side in the 51st minute but Neymar levelled matters just four minutes later. Messi netted with the outside of his boot after a swift team move 13 minutes from time to win the game.

Barca have a one hundred percent record after three La Liga games and are top of the table, with Madrid second on seven points.
