Minister to probe contracted player selection

Minister to probe contracted player selection Featured

Sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekara promises an immediate inquiry into the manner Sri Lanka Cricket had chosen 70 contracted players.

There have been allegations that the selection had been done to the want of three top SLC officials.

Jayasekara told Sri Lanka Mirror that chief selector Sanath Jayasuriya too, would be asked to explain the selection procedure.

National selectors have the responsibility of choosing the contracted players, but the incumbent administration had handed over the task of selecting the domestic level players to a three-member committee.

On the committee’s recommendation, players had been summoned to SLC On October 08, given a document to read and got their signatures to a document.

One member of the committee is from a sports club in Panadura, and he had included more than 10 players on the condition that they play for his club in the domestic tournament.

A total of 100 players are to be given contracts, including 30 under the national and ‘A’ team levels.

However, the 30 had not been summoned to SLC along with the others on October 08.
