The sports ministry and its minister Dayasiri Jayasekara are involved in numerous disputes, according to reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror.

The main among them is the red light issued by the International Olympic Committee that only two months could be given to resolve the issue with regard to the national sports act.

Sri Lanka has been warned of being stripped off of its IOC membership.

The warning came at an IOC meeting on the sidelines of Rio Olympics.

Representing Sri Lanka at the meeting were Jayasekara, NOC chief Hemasiri Fernando and several of its officials.

No proper dress for shooter

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan officials have failed to provide proper clothing for Mangala Samarakoon to take part in the 10 m air rifle event at the Olympics.

Rio officials had cut around two inches off his dress, and he had failed to perform due to this problem.

His coach Pushpamali Ramanayake says the dress given for Mangala was fit only for training.

Media team sent by ministry

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan media team that is covering the Olypics includes Dinesh Weerawansa, editor of ‘Sunday Observer’ during the Rajapaksa regime.

His inclusion has raised eyebrows of both the president and the prime minister, reports say.

Furthermore, the sports ministry has given wrong names for the foreign sports personnel taking part in the Olympics.

A case in point is the result issued by the ministry for Niluka Karunaratne’s badminton men’s singles event.
