Mathew misses out on semis

Sri Lankan swimmer Matthew Abeysinghe finished third in the second heat of the men’s 100m freestyle event at the Rio Olympics 2016, missing out on qualification to the second round.

Abeysinghe clocked 50.96 secs and was placed 50th out of 59 swimmers.

The top 16 qualified for the semi-finals.

“This is my debut in Olympics and I have a long way to go. I would have loved to clock a better timing but am not dejected at all. My ultimate target is 2020 Olympics in Tokyo” reports the Daily News citing Abeysinghe.
