Substandard drug from China for Rs. 4.6 b! Featured

A substandard stock of pegaspargase drug imported from China is amounting to around Rs. 4.6 billion, internal sources from the Health ministry say.

The drug is administered as part of chemotherapy medications for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia patients.

It is said that the stock contains around 20,000 vials with one vial amounting to Rs. 230,000.

Earlier, the drug imported under the trademark - Oncaspar was blacklisted due to a fraud committed during the importation. However, the drug has been reimported after setting up a new pharmaceutical company, reports add.
