State institutions being restructured

State institutions being restructured Featured

All services excepting electricity and water are being restructured with the cooperation of the private sector as a solution to the economic crisis and due to their failure to provide a quality service owing to their state monopoly, ‘Ravaya’ quotes state enterprise development deputy minister Eran Wickramaratne as saying.

SriLankan Airlines and certain other institutions will be handed over to the private sector completely and competition allowed in the private sector to ensure an efficient and quality service, he says.

Wickramaratne says his ministry is providing the required technical assistance and guidance in this restructuring task.

Certain state institutions will be handed over completely to the private sector, while sectors in which both the sectors are involved in are to be properly managed, while others with state monopoly will be opened to the private sector, he says.

It is important to allow the competing institutions to provide a good service, but not keeping institutions under the state, he adds.
