The COPE has brought this to the attention of the Auditor General’s Department, which last week ordered the CEB to submit a report detailing the procedure of buying electricity.
No audit has been done with regard to these expenses and COPE will look into the determinations of requirement to be bought, amount of electricity to be bought and the price.
When contacted, CEB chairman Anura Wijepala said that since 1996 November to date, electricity had been bought with cabinet approval and as per agreements reached with the selling companies.
All those details would be submitted to the AG’s department, he added.
