Fisheries Minister from Opposition Featured

A move is on to enlist an opposition Member of Parliament to fill the Fisheries Minister post that fell vacant following the resignation of Rajitha Senaratne who quit the government to support Common Opposition Candidate Maithripala Srisena at next month's Presidential election.

It is reported that discussions are already taking place between the government and two MPs from the UNP.

One of them is said to be a senior UNP member.

Currently the Fisheries Minister post is under an acting minister Sarath Gunaratne who is a senior member of the Sri Lanka Lanka Freedom Party.

Gunaratne who was deputy to Rajitha Senaratne is also said to be looking forward to the elevated post and has already been given the official car and residence used by the former Fisheries Minister.
