Speaking thus at a media briefing in Kotikawatta, Solangaarachchi said that he, a staunch supporter of the late Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, took this decision after being dejected over the UPFA leadership.

Speaking further, he has said, "I was wronged. I will not contest for the Pradeshiya Sabha again."

Solangaarachchi is also the Chairman of the All Island Pradeshiya Sabha Chairmen Association.
