The objective of this process is twofold. First it provides an opportunity for patriotic men and women of Sri Lanka who have attained high professional capacity to contribute towards national security in the fields of their choosing as and when the requirement arises. It also promotes personal development of these individuals and the opportunity for them to be recognized as part of one of the most prestigious organizations in the country. Secondly this is a means of force multiplication especially in a post conflict scenario. These individuals who are oriented towards a disciplined and patriotic professional style are inclined to put country before self in crises and will be better geared to perform in demanding situations in the better interest of the nation.

This programme aligns with the vision of president Maithripala Sirisena on professionals when he said “In Singapore former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew made it mandatory for all citizens to go through a phase of voluntary military training making them disciplined individuals. Today in Singapore all professionals such as doctors, engineers, accountants and lawyers are volunteer army officers” at the Economic Summit in Colombo on 5 Aug 15.
Nevertheless this initiative is unique in being a voluntary service as opposed to mandatory in Singapore thus gaining greater acceptance in the Sri Lankan society.
Professionals to the Volunteer Reserve will be merged seamlessly to the road map that would bring the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force to the cutting-edge.
