Boy taken out of school over HIV fear

Boy taken out of school over HIV fear Featured

A boy, who has been unable to attend school due to a mistaken belief that he is HIV positive, will be taken out of the school, said north western province education minister Sandya Rajapakse.

Educational and health officials met parents of the other students, but failed to convince them that the boy from Kuliyapitiya was not infected, BBC Sandeshaya reports.

Therefore, the provincial minister said the boy would be taken out of the school, but health and National Child Protection Authority officials objected to the decision.

The boy’s mother said the provincial minister had come to her home after the meeting at school, and promised to give another school for the boy.

The National STD and AIDS Prevention Programme has confirmed that the boy was not infected with HIV virus.
