Although it is the common global belief that gender equality would be achieved by the year 2013, it would take three more years for that, says Dr. Palitha Mahipala, the Director General of Health Services.
He was speaking at a media briefing yesterday (01) with regard to the International Women's Day which falls on March 08.
However, Sri Lanka is leagues ahead on this regard, he added.
He also said that Sri Lankan women had a longer lifespan of over 6 years than the country's male population.
