This initiative has become a catalyst in encouraging children of volunteer personnel to attain greater heights in education over the last few years, it says in a statement.
This year, 34 students gaining admission to universities, 262 students achieving high grades at the GCE O/L exam and 274 students qualifying at the year five scholarship exam have been awarded financial grants.
Accordingly 34 children gaining admission to university received Rs.
50,000/- each, 262 high achievers at the GCE O/L exam received Rs.
20,000/- each and 274 students qualifying at the year five scholarship exam received Rs. 15,000/- each.
The entire commitment of Rs. 10,230,000 was financed by the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force through its welfare scheme.
The grants were awarded at a ceremony held at the main auditorium of the BMICH, Colombo under the patronage of the Secretary Defence and the Commander of the Army.
