Sumathipala's move to shut down Lakbima newspaper backed by CEO Featured
05 December 2014
Speculation has mounted that the chief executive officer of the Lakbima newspaper Sujeewa Godaliyadda has in a move to undermine journalists decided to lend his support to publisher and member of Parliament Thilanga Sumathipala in the event a move is made to shut down the daily Sinhala publication.
It has been reported that Sumathipala has already envisaged a plan to either close down the daily Lakbima publication or scale down its workers after the Presidential election.
It has also been reported that since the exit of Lakbima editor Saman Wagarachchi the circulation or sales of the newspaper had fallen by fifty percent.
In another move a decision has also been taken by Godaliyadda to cut the pay of journalists who arrive late for work which is not the norm of any editorial department or media organization in the country.
