On the agenda for a two-day debate is the appointment of a constitutional council to formulate a new constitution.
Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella said yesterday that would be done without a vote.
However, JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake opposed it.
Meanwhile, the speaker will announce the decision today as to whether he would accept the joint opposition as a separate entity in parliament.
Parliament meets at 9.00 am today (24).
