He made his remarks in an interview with the Radio station Neth FM.

"This is not a campaign against the President. It is against his policies", the venerable Thera said.

"It has been stated in the Mahinda Chinthanaya.

So he should know what is wrong. We have told the President let's do it this way.

If the President can do what we have told him to do, then that's it. That is why we have told the President to change this electoral system.

We have said that the Constitution should be changed to prevent elected members of Parliament from changing parties.

If they want to change parties they should resign", he said.

Ven. Sobitha Thera also said that if the Constitution and the powers of the Executive presidency cannot be changed by common Opposition candidate then alternatives have to be looked into.
