Govt. objects to disabled soldiers' petition

The possibility of arriving at a settlement over the case filed against the non payment of salary arrears to disabled army soldiers have fallen through, after the government filed objections.

Earlier, government parties had declared before the judiciary that both parties could arrive at a settlement.

However, when the case was taken up, the lawyer representing the government said that the Army would file objections, requesting to overrule the petition.

Therefore, the Disabled Soldiers Association has decided to continue with the case, its chairman P.V.S. Shantha says.

"This is a major injustice. We are the true war heroes. There is a large number of persons with us who were disabled due to the war. They are entitled to receive the salary arrears until they receive a pension. However, the authorities are not taking measures to ensure this. This is  a regretful situation," he said.
