Audits indicate a shortfall of Rs. 8,730 million in a report of tax dues to the Inland Revenue Department, reports say.

That is equivalent to half of the annual income of the Department.

The Department should receive a total of Rs. 192,660 million as revenue income, but the report that follows an investigation shows the figure at only Rs. 183,920 million.

This income is due during the 10 year period ended in 2012.

Also, there has been a reduction in the estimated annual income of the Department.
