Ekneligoda case state council removal reversed

State couinsel Dileepa Peiris has been told to continue to represent the Attorney General’s Department in the case in connection with the enforced disappearance of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.

On January 26, Sri Lanka Mirror revealed the Army’s legal officer and a colonel had met the former AG and asked him to remove Peiris from the case, saying the lawyer was continually leveling accusations against the military.

Thereafter, Citizens’ Power, other civil society organizations and lawyers asked the government to act against an attempt to remove him from the case.

A top official of the department last night (08) informed Peiris to continue to appear for the case, which will be taken up again today.
