Port city harms marine artifacts!

Port city harms marine artifacts! Featured

Consideration of archaeological aspects is a must for any environmental impact assessment, but this has been excluded from the EIA report for the Colombo port city project, according to reports.

The report has failed to make a detailed review of harm caused to marine artifacts.

The project area has been used since 1505 as a port, and is considered a major site of archaeological importance.

During the recent port expansions, many artifacts were found.

The Environmental Conservation Trust says the Coast Conservation and the Coast Resources Management Departments cannot grant approval for this incomplete report.

Not only reclamation is done in a port city, but also the project should consider sewage and sewerage disposals, it says.
