The most immediate reason for the decision is that principals of several national schools in Colombo had maintained an addition class for grade six without informing the ministry.
Over this, the principals of Royal, D.S. Senanayake and Ananda Colleges have been given transfers.
However, they say they had to maintain an additional class during the Rajapaksa regime to serve wants of politicians.
There is suspicion as to why exam department officials had not found out the additional classes when going through applications for the GCE ordinary level examination.
The director of national schools has been suspended over the matter.
