The Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development is to commence work on this regard this year.

The first project of this sort is to link Colombo Fort and Athurugiriya while another segment is a highway between Athurugiriya and Katunayake.

The cost of the project has been estimated at Rs. 130 billion.
