The new NIC will avoid the same numbers for two or more persons, as in the case of those born in 1916 and 2016 having the same numbers under the existing method.

The new card will begin to be printed within the next couple of months in accordance with international standards, said the Department.

All banks and state institutions have been informed of the new NIC, it added.
