The National Ozone Unit says all state institutions will be provided with environmentally-friendly air-conditioners at discount prices in collaboration with the International Ozone Secretariat.
The ACs presently being used, containing the air pollutant HCFC, will be taken out of use by 2020, said its director Janaka Gunawardena.
Environmentally-friendly ACs, containing hydrocarbons and ammonia, and capable of saving electricity, will be imported, he said.
