MPs of the joint opposition had given up their December salary for the welfare of remanded Army intelligence officers and MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage said that handing over of these funds would commence from next month.

The funds are to contribute towards the legal affairs faced by these Army intelligence officers and for the welfare of their families.

In addition, opposition party - Pavithuru Hela Urumaya MP Udaya Gammanpila said their party also volunteered legal assistance for such officers.

Five Army intelligence officers are currently being held in remand custody, over their alleged involvement in the abduction and murder of journalist - Prageeth Ekneligoda.

A mission to instigate military :
Meanwhile, a local weekend publication has alleged that there is a political mission underway to conspire and instigate military personnel against the government after seemingly appearing for such arrested Army personnel
