Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror', he said that such incidents had come to light when many GCE O/L candidates had applied for their NIC. There were cases where the birthdays and parents' names were changed, he added.
However, measures were taken to issue NICs for these exam candidates after obtaining a Probable Age Certificate, he further said.
The commissioner further said that legal redress will be sought against those who attempt to obtain NICs for illegal activities using forged birth certificates.
