TNA MP E. Saravanapavan has urged to reduce the military presence in the Northern region, reports say.

According to a news report on 'Global Tamil News', the MP has said that the new government is yet to keep the promises they made to the region before elections were held, which including reducing military presence and releasing civilian land held by the military.

He has added that the present government should not follow the footsteps of the former government.

Meanwhile, speaking in Parliament yesterday (18), Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that the government had decided to release more civilian land held by the military in the North.

He said that President Maithripala Sirisena will have discussions in this regard with the relevant officials.
