Its chief Chulananda Perera said no irregularity has taken place in this matter.
Customs TUs have decided to complain to the president that the state would lose Rs. 3,220 million due to the importation of these vehicles by citing incorrect values.
Customs services union secretary J.A. Gunatilake said more than 200 vehicles imported in the past two months by citing reduced values were being detained.
However, the customs director general Perera said the values have been decided following a proper valuation.
Should be forfeited
Gunatilake said all these vehicles should be forfeited.
Meanwhile, minister Rajitha Senaratne said he would raise a voice against corruption by his colleages, in the same manner he rose up against the corrupt Avant Garde deal.
Responding to question at yesterday’s (17) cabinet news briefing, he said the Customs would not clear any item due to pressure from the outside, unlike in the past when presidents used to get goods cleared without paying customs fees.
