Investigations have commenced after police received a 119 emergency call.

The 31-year-old mother, who is said to be a resident of Dehiattakandiya area, has been taken into police custody.

Police say that the newborn had died and that the remains are at the Kalubowila Hospital morgue.

Further investigations are underway.
