‘Talks fail, strike on 15th as planned’

‘Talks fail, strike on 15th as planned’ Featured

Yesterday (12) afternoon’s talks for three hours with the prime minister on several demands by the government, semi-government and private sector trade unions alliance have failed, said the alliance convener Saman Ratnapriya, stressing that the strike action planned for December 15 would go ahead as scheduled.

The government did not give a favourable response to calls for a reversal of the curtailment of the state sector pension and the inclusion of the Rs. 10,000 allowance to the basic salary, he said.

During the course of the discussions with the PM and several ministers, it was evident that they were resorting to delaying tactics by way of appointing committees, instead of providing clear decisions, said Ratnapriya.

The JVP-led national trade unions centre did not take part in the meeting with the PM.
