A cabinet paper seeking funds to pay the bonus submitted by transport minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has not received a positive response due to the financial issues being faced by the government.

There are nearly 6,000 employees, including 1,100 security officers, who work at airports.

During the Rajapaksa regime, they had been given a year-end bonus of Rs. 10,000.

If they are not given the bonus this year, it will be the first time they will have to do without a bonus, said an employee.
