Private buses will hold a black flag protest starting tomorrow (08) against the increase in charges for emission tests, revenue licenses and valuations, said Lanka Private Bus Owners Association president Gemunu Wijeratne.

Failure of the government to provide concessions for private buses will result in their launching an islandwide strike from December 15, he warned.

The government will have to take responsibility if students sitting for the GCE Ordinary Level examination fail to be at their exam centres on time as a result, he said.

Wijeratne said the valuation charge for a vehicle has been raised from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 15,000, while provincial councils have proposed an increase in the revenue license charges.

The association has also decided to complaint to the Human Rights Commission over the manner the police implement the lane law.
