This position has been recently created through a cabinet paper, in addition to parliament’s secretary general and deputy secretary general positions.
The new appointee is Tikiri Jayatilake.
Parliament employees say he has been appointed without calling for applications or holding an interview.
Secretary general Dhammika Dissanayake says Jayatilake was appointed following an interview on November 06.
The interview had been held secretly and Jayatilake given an appointment letter on November 17, according to which he will assume duties tomorrow (01).
Had the appointment been made in accordance with the interview conducted in 2014 to select an assistant secretary general, the position should have gone to S.H. Jayasundara, who tops the list of the qualified.
Jayatilake is in the third position.
