Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo today (26) the Justice Minister said that the Sri Lankan government would take full responsibility to ensure the country's national security.
He also assured that the inmates would be released after proper judicial procedures.
Speaking further, the minister said that leaders of the previous government who, on several accounts, had released detainees arrested under the PTA Act, are now levelling charges against the present government to obtain political milage.
On 2010 January, the previous government released 140 LTTE suspects, he added. However, the minister said that he is not stating that the previous government had erred by doing so.
A lenient policy would be followed with regard to certain suspects in order to power the government programme aimed at national reconciliation, he further said.
