Navy’s ‘gang of extortionists’ to CID! Featured

The CID is to arrest several officers of the Navy intelligence suspected of maintaining a secret centre at the Trincomalee base to abduct persons for extortion, say police headquarters sources.
The related investigations resumed following the finding of a Wagon believed to have been used to kidnap students and others during the previous regime.
 
Three Navy intelligence officers were summoned to the CID yesterday (23) to record statements.
 
Meanwhile, three Navy men, including two officers, are under arrest in connection with the torture site at the Trincomalee base, as revealed by the UN.
 
Three top officers of the Navy are accused of abducting and killing 28 Tamil and Muslim youths.
 
The CID has so far recorded statements from 74 Navy men in the course of their investigations.
