Dr. Neville Fernando has demanded for compensation against a statement made by Professor Fonseka to the media with regard to late Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thero.
He has made these comments today (17) addressing a media briefing held at Neville Fernando Hospital.
He has further stated that he completely denies the claims which state that Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero was infected by a germ.
Only the treatments advised by the doctors were given to Sobitha Thero following the heart surgery, he has added.
Problematic treatments
In a previous occasion Prof. Carlo Fonseka had stated that the medical treatments provided to Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero following his illness were problematic.
Addressing media the professor had further stated that following a heart surgery the patient should be thoroughly monitored for complications and the inability of the doctors and the health care system to save Venerable Thero who contributed to establishment of democracy in the country, is disheartening.
Impartial investigation
Meanwhile, Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) states that an impartial investigation should be conducted into the death of Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero.
The media spokesman of GMOA Dr. Naveen de Soyza has stated that admitting Sobitha Thero to a private hospital located in Malabe was problematic and that if the Thero experienced a complication due to an irregularity in the procedure an investigation should be conducted into it.
