The president has asked the Navy commander to report him as to whether they could take over Avant Garde Maritime Company’s functions, and told participants not to reveal anything to the media.
However, minister Senaratne told the media later that the seven agreements between the government and Avant Garde would be abolished, and the floating armoury project would be taken over by the Navy.
He also said Avant Garde would be suspended.
Participating in the discussion chaired by president Maithripala Sirisena were ministers Rajitha Senaratne, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Arjuna Ranatunga and Wijayadasa Rajapaksa as well as heads of the Attorney General’s Department, the Navy and the police.
However, minister Rajapaksa remained silent throughout the discussion.
