GTF ban to be lifted?

GTF ban to be lifted? Featured

The Ban on the Global Tamil Forum is to be lifted before its president Fr. S.J. Emmanuel visits Sri Lanka, say defence ministry sources.

Fr. Emmanuel says he has accepted the invitation by the Sri Lanka president and the foreign minister to come to Sri Lanka to assist in the process of reconciliation.

He has told Switzerland’s ‘Zeit-Fragen’ newspaper in an interview, “Some young people immediately said: You have to go. But it will take time to see how the country is developing now. In order to contribute to reconciliation I will continue to speak and to write.”

17 organizations, 400 individuals proscribed

The defence ministry has decided to review the proscription by the Rajapaksa regime, on 17 organizations and 400 individuals loyal to the LTTE following the finding of a confidential document in an LTTE bunker at Mullivaikkal.

Some of the persons mentioned in that document are not living now.

Pursuant to a request by the foreign affairs ministry, the defence ministry has sought observations regarding their de-proscription, from the state intelligence service and the military intelligence.
