The protest march was held to pressurize the government over several issues prevailing in universities.

As the protesters had attempted to march towards the University Grants Commission (UGC) when they were halted by the anti-riot squad using batons.

Several students were also arrested.

Severe traffic congestion was also reported at Ward Place and Town Hall areas in Colombo due to the protest.
