Every 7th Lankan female is without a male Featured

The gender imbalance in Sri Lanka’s population, which comprises 54 per cent of women, could lead to yet another social issue, according to sociologists.

According to latest statistics, Sri Lanka has a women population of 12,262,000, as against 10,445,000 men.

This means every seventh female does not have a male.

Sri Lanka’s women population began to get the upper hand since 1881, which stood at 49 pc after increasing from 46.7 pc in 1871.
