CID -FCID officers disappointed

CID -FCID officers disappointed Featured

The police officers who are investigating the corruptions, frauds and crimes of the previous government are extremely disappointed, report police sources.

There are only very few officers deployed to investigate over 5000 complaints received by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID).

In the entire department there are only 652 officers to investigate the 7400 complaints lodged with Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and out of the officers available 200 attend the daily court proceedings.

Under the particular circumstances investigating these large scale incidents has become a difficult task. However, unresponsive nature of the Attorney General's Department towards the documents complied following thorough investigations conducted with much dedication and the corruptive individuals being released due to it have also caused the disappointment among the police officers.

Similarly, it has been reported that the investigations with regard to abduction of Ekneligoda and murder of Lasantha Wickrematunge, Pararajasingham and Raviraj have been heavily disrupted by the Army.

Ministerial pressure :

Also, sources say that it has become hard to continue investigations due to influences of political authorities.

Sources add that ministers from the UNP and SLFP alike are influencing investigation officers in this manner to salvage businessmen and certain officials who had engaged in corrupt activities while enjoying close relations with the Rajapaksas.
