Divulapitiya police are to summon those who complained that they had been illegally arrested and assaulted.

Around 10 youths had been arrested, some of them several times.

Human rights groups want action taken, including training given, to prevent violence by police and prison officers against suspects and detainees.

They also want independence of the judiciary to ensure citizens’ fundamental rights are protected.
