Ven. Gnanasara was expressing his concern over Ranil Wickremesinghe not contesting the presidential election, during a media briefing held at the BBS headquarters in Kirulapona today (Nov 18).

The Thero stated that at times he feels that Wickremesinghe standing in for the presidential election under United National Party (UNP) ticket is appropriate.

National candidate

Addressing the media briefing, Chief Executive Officer of BBS, Dilanthe Withanage stated that it has been decided to field a Sinhalese Buddhist candidate at the upcoming presidential election.

Further discussions are being held on this regard, he added.

Commenting further on the particular matter Ven. Gnanasara Thero stated that the BBS is not preparing to field a common candidate, but a national candidate.

JHU, fair
The proposals tabled by the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) are fair and the government is applying formulas to divide parties, the Thero added.

Gnanasara Thero further stated that he is intending to engage in discussions with JHU.
