Some of those weapons are still with the Tamil groups, the CID has found out in the course of investigations into the murder of TNA MP N. Raviraj and the forced abduction of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.
The firearm used to kill Raviraj had been given to former east chief minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan by a colonel, who is under arrest over the Ekneligoda incident.
During the war, the colonel in question had been in charge of special duties in eastern province.
On an order by the National Security Council, he had given the weapon to Pillayan, who had handed it over to ‘Charan’, who later gave it to Navyman Priyantha, who gunned down Raviraj.
After the MP’s killing, Priyantha had been taken to a police safe-house by a PC attached to state intelligence, named Manamperi.
Both Priyantha and Manamperi are presently in remand custody.
Police have also uncovered information with regard to the three wheeler driver who had taken Priyantha to commit the murder, and the motorcyclist who helped him to getaway thereafter.
