According to the police, a court order has been obtained to detain the suspect for 72 hours to be questioned.

A third suspect arrested recently over the murder of the child had confessed to the killing. The suspect, identified as 33 year old Dinesh Priyashantha, was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Gampaha.

Two others arrested earlier, including a 17 year old boy, were released after DNA tests found they were not directly involved in the rape and murder of the child.
