Karunka, Ethanol rackets back in action - Ravaya Featured

A brother of a minister linked to International Trade has joined the Indonesian areca nut (Karunkal nut) racket in the country, the ‘Ravaya’ newspaper reports.

The individual who was earlier involved in the racket too, is a close associate of the said minister.

Finance minister Ravi Karunanayake made a recent revelation in Parliament about the individual in parliament.

The ‘Ravaya’ also reports :

The racketeers involved have been exporting Indonesian areca nuts to India under the pretence of the products being from Sri Lanka.

It was also charged that permits have been illegally given to import and export ‘Karunka’.

Ethanol racket too, back in action

Meanwhile, a former minister and a present deputy minister have resumed the infamous ‘Ethanol’ racket.

These public representatives are also behind the Karunka and Tile rackets.

Speaking in parliament recently, minister Karunanayake revealed the names of businessmen who were involved in the illegal importation of Ethanol to the country. Muttiah Shashidharan and Jayalath Krishan Peiris were two such individuals.
