Ekneligoda was initially abducted on August 27, 2009. Two days before the 2010 Presidential election, he was abducted again.
It is said that Ekneligoda has had links with the LTTE only to obtain information as a journalist and not with any other expectation.
However, according to internal police sources, Ekneligoda was made to disappear on Jan 14, 2010, over political influence.
Speaking to ’Sri Lanka Mirror’, his wife - Mrs. Sandhya Ekneligoda says that she is satisfied over the prevailing CID investigations. She said that the police did not hold investigations during the Rajapaksa era due to the intervention of Mahinda Rajapaksa.
With the new president coming into power, investigations are being held properly, said Mrs. Sandhya, adding that she has faith on the prevailing probe, which was initiated from March 12, 2015.
However, insults made by persons backed by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa are still prevailing and such persons are still spreading propaganda citing that Ekneligoda has links to the LTTE and several other institutions.
