Corruption in Transport ministry concealed? Featured

Measures are yet taken over the report of the commission set up to discover the corruption that is said to have taken place in the Transport ministry while the Rajapaksa government was in power, the ‘Sath Handa’ newspaper reports

The four-man commission was appointed by the then Transport minister - Ranjith Maddumabandara when the 100-day government swept into power, it adds.

Following several months of investigation, the report was handed over to Mr. Maddumabandara, ‘Sath Handa’ further says.

The news report further says :

Upon contacting Mr. Maddumabandara to inquire about the measures taken on the report, he said that complaints have been lodged with the Bribery Commission and the FCID on this regard.

However, these institutions are yet to initiate investigations, he added.

With the new government swearing in after the General election, Nimal Siripala de Silva was appointed as the new Transport minister and ‘Sath Handa’ says it learns of attempts to sweep these corruption charges under the rug.

Meanwhile, it is said that the report of the committee appointed to look into the mass corruption that had allegedly taken place at the Sri Lanka Ports Authority is to be handed over to Ports minister Arjuna Ranatunga on early October.
