Foreign ministry to be restructured Featured

The Foreign ministry is to undergo a major restructuring process for it to be more like that of Singapore, which is considered to be one of the best Foreign ministries in the world.

A news report published by the 'Sath Handa' newspaper says that discussions have already been held on this regard with the Singapore Foreign minister.

The news report further says :

Meanwhile, it is learnt that Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has rejected a country report formulated by Foreign ministry officials for his Indian tour.

The report, which had been similar to those formulated during the Rajapaksa regime and not been suited to the prevailing political objectives.

Also, the report was made by officials who had followed the instructions of former Monitoring MP of the ministry - Sajin Vass Gunewardena.

It is singular that officials who had adapted to the system that prevailed in the last 10 years were dropped from the Prime minister's Indian tour.

The new restructuring process will be done by the Prime minister - Ranil Wickremesinghe and Foreign minister - Mangala Samaraweera on the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena, reports say.

Also, the Foreign ministry is tasked with a special role in the economy of the country. Economist Harsha de Silva being appointed as Deputy Foreign minister is a step of this process. The Foreign ministry is to work closely with the ministry of Development Strategies and International Trade headed by Malik Samarawickrama.

The process is also to receive the backing of the Singapore government.

However, a false media report was published on this regard recently. That is, the Prime minister had made a comment over the country report being rejected, inconveniencing the Foreign minister.
